I don’t recall Happidays, mind you children’s clothing would not be at the top of my agenda in the late 50’s. Windridges though specialised in posh Perambulaters or prams, as they were commonly called and had a large painted advertisement on the gable end of the shop reading “Why worry wheel a Windridge.” Every so often you would hear that one of your friends was looking a wee bit worried as there was a strong possibility that through circumstances beyond his self control, his girlfriend was likely to become his wife, a matter much frowned on in the 50’s, usually by the young ladies father. Meeting your mate and being told of this life changing matter, your reaction would be to look serious and say, “Why worry, Mate. Wheel a Windridge .”
