Hi Billy
Yes Mary ran the business at 23 Tower St after Bernard left her and his large family for New York in 1870. We don’t know why he left or how he died there four years later at 38. Mary lived well into the Twenties as my Gran can remember her sitting at the gates on Tower St in her apron and keys.

Despite sounding somewhat similar to the Caribbean Islands, the area of Wolverhampton City Centre once known as “Carribee Island” was no place in the sun!

Hi
I am looking for stories/photos of Bernard Salmon and his wife Mary McDermot. They were Irish and in Wolverhampton in the 1850’s. He left for New York in 1870 and died there four years later. She continued the scrap metal/rag and bone/metal refining business on Tower St until the 1930’s.
